The Rome Studio

Tactile discipline

Our masterclasses offer a quiet space to study the relationship between ink, paper, and physical gesture. Each session is limited to four participants to ensure dedicated guidance.

You will work with hand-carved reed pens and organic materials, learning how natural pigments interact with the unique fibers of handmade hemp and cotton papers.

Raw Pigments

The Reed Pen

The Gestural Line

Grind natural lapis lazuli and madder root by hand on stone slabs, mixing them with gum arabic to create deep, archival inks.

Learn to cut and angle the traditional qalam, understanding how the hollow reed holds and releases ink under varying physical pressure.

Practice the foundational geometry of contemporary strokes, focusing on breath, posture, and the quiet space between movements.
